Approval and Accreditation Process

The Faculty is able to process applications with a view to approval and/or accreditation of courses. You are strongly recommended not to produce a manual as if approved the Manual of Core Material will be the supporting educational resource.

This is a two-stage process, and it will be necessary for approval to be agreed before accreditation can be applied for.

An approved course is one that has successfully passed the approvals process. Essentially, this will involve the completion of a template for assessment of the training course, and following a needs analysis reviewed by the Chairman of the Training and Standards Board of the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care, recommendations will be made as to what material within the Generic Core Manual will be suitable for your course, and an outline plan will be produced. Provided that this is acceptable, then the full Generic Core Material will be made available to you, and a contract of agreement will be signed between both bodies recognising approval of your course. It should be noted that this is approval of the teaching material only, and not of the delivery or quality of the course itself.

The Faculty provides the supporting educational material from the Generic Core Content, in the form of a Manual, if your course requires additional specialist modules they can be written by the Faculty for a fee. The cost of running each course is £75.00 per student. This includes the provision of a manual for each student and a certificate for successful students. You are required to submit a list of students prior to each course a list of successful students and a short (approximately 200 words) appraisal for each course. For courses which are run on a voluntary basis (Faculty not paid, fees covering expenses) the cost of running each course is £45.00 per student. You may wish to rebrand or change the format in which case it would then need to be reviewed again prior to the approval process being completed. All manuals are printed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care retains the copyright.

The whole cost of the approvals process is £500, and this needs to be paid at the time of submission of the template. Successful candidates will be granted a certificate, which will carry the College and Faculty logo.

The certificate will bear the words “… which has been recognised and approved by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.”

Courses will need to be submitted for re-approval every five years unless, of course, there has been substantial alteration to the course content, in which case the revised course should be resubmitted.

If you wish to proceed, please complete and return Form A at your earliest convenience, plus a cheque for £500.00 made payable to “The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh”.

Should you require any further information, then please contact Lindsay Millar Faculty Administrator.
